A soul soothing drink - Falooda
Falooda is a totally scrumptious rose almond flavoured drink assembled with layers of chia seeds, vermicelli, flavoured syrup, jelly, fruits and topped with ice cream. This sweet concoction is very popular in South Asia. Every country has its unique version of falooda but it is originally a Persian dessert known by the name 'faloodeh'. It was introduced in India by Mughals.
Though this cooling dessert is prepared in summer as the ingredients used to prepare it help your body cool down but it can be enjoyed throughout the year specially during festive season.
So how about relishing a glass of this sweet delight in comfort of your home...It's gonna get delicious!
Recipe: (⏲Cooking time 20 minutes)
Ingredients:
- Any flavoured jelly that you like, prepared according to package directions or ready made.
- 1 tablespoon Chia seeds
- 4 tablespoon Vermicelli
- 1 cup cold Milk
- 2-3 tablespoon of syrup of your choice such as Rose, Almond, Butterscotch etc.
- 2 scoops of icecream
- 2 teaspoons crushed Pistachios, Almonds and Cashew nut.
Directions:
- Soak Chia seeds in 1 cup water. Mix well and allow to rest for 30 mintues so that they bloom i.e. till they get plumpy, white layer around each seed.
- In a pan add 1/4 cup water then add milk. Allow it to boil. When milk starts to boil. Put off the flame and allow the milk to cool down.2 teaspoons of syrup and stir well.
- Heat water in a pot, add vermicelli. Allow to cook. When it looks cooked drain the water using strainer and keep the vermicelli aside.
- Chop nuts, fruits, jelly into small cubes. Keep it aside.
How to assemble the Falooda:
- take a tall glass and put some syrup at the bottom.
- Over the syrup create layers of Vermicelli, Chia seeds, Jelly and chopped fruits.
- Pour chilled syrup milk. Scoop out ice cream and put over it.
- Top it with chopped nuts, fruits. Drizzle syrup to finish.
Notes:
- The Falooda is mildly sweet. If you want more sweetness you can always and an extra oomph of flavour by dripping some rose syrup on top.
- I have given the recipe for reference. Feel free to adjust and add more or less ingredients according to your choice.
